The Knights of Rizal is known to be a patriotic, nationalistic, and chivalric fraternal organization that was signed into law in 1951 and was created to honor and uphold the ideals of the national hero, Jose Rizal. It is the only order of knighthood in the Philippines officially recognized and endorsed by an official act of the national government, and its awards and titles are recognized by the Honors Code of the Philippines as official awards of the Philippine Republic.
Among those who were conferred by the KOR in the past were notable persons such as U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City, Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr., King Juan Carlos of Spain, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, Governor Jerry Singson of Ilocos Sur, and former presidents Benigno Aquino III and Rodrigo Duterte.
The honorary rank bestowed on the city mayor proves that his selfless contributions to the city as a public servant and a visionary leader are beyond comparable and worthy of being recognized.
