Iloilo City Positions itself as the BIKE CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPPINES

The initiative of the local government of Iloilo City to construct the Iloilo City Network, an 11-kilometer bike lane, craft policies that support active mobility, safety, and road sharing, as well as promote the biking lifestyle fostered by Ilonggos; deep love for active exercise, are all prerequisites in the promotion of Iloilo City biking as an inclusive, scenic, safe, and sustainable bike hub. With the infrastructure already built and policies institutionalized, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) supported and funded the promotion of ILOILO CITY: BIKE CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPPINES as a bike-ready city to attract local and foreign tourists, showcase the one-of-a-kind Ilonggo culture, tradition, lifestyle, and cuisine, and revitalize the local economy in the new normal. A partnership between IPG Mediabrands Inc., a media andmarketing specialist located in Metro Manila, and the Iloilo City Government was deemed necessary for the success of the branding.

The Grand Launch

Months of preparation led to a successful grand launch of the ILOILO CITY: BIKE CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPPINES last July 31, 2022 at the Indoor Atrium Ground Level of Festive Walk Iloilo. The theme #BikeKaNaman sa Iloilo City as a safe, scenic, and eco-friendly Bike Capital of the Philippines embodies the willingness of Iloilo City to innovate its transportation infrastructures to support Ilonggosโ€™ passion and love for biking, not only as a safer and healthier mode of public transportation but as a hobby that gradually develops into a lifestyle. The event established the joint partnership and collaboration of the public and private sectors, most especially by the stakeholders of the Iloilo City MICE Tourism industry. Of the many special guests, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Chief Operating Officer Atty. Maria Anthonette C. Velasco-Allones, represented by Acting Head for Marketing and Events Division, Eloisa Romero, Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Office VI Director Cristine Mansinares graced the occasion and gave their support and congratulations. Governors of the local government units in Western Visayas and Mayors of the Metro-Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) were also invited.
