“Two of our book projects were nominated, the Iloilo Art Book and the Flavours of Iloilo Cookbook. They both went through the regionals and Flavors of Iloilo Cookbook made it to the nationals as finalist for the National Book Awards (NBA) 2023. Thank you to the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and Manila Critics Circle (MCC) and our nominator Kasing Kasing Press.
So proud of our efforts to promote our Ilonggo culture and tradition in the culinary sphere. Coming from the recent announcement that Iloilo City is now a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, this couldn’t come at a most opportune time. What a win for Ilonggo food, culture, and heritage.
A special thank you to my wife, Rosalie S. Treñas, the Project Lead and Executive Director of the two books.
Thank you to all who were involved in this project most especially for the support of Iloilo City Government’s co- publisher, the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc (IFFI). And thank you for the hard work of the creative editorial team — editor Michaela Fenix; book designer and creative director Ige Ramos; author, food styling and kitchen development Rafael Jardeleza Jr. with the chefs for recipe development, John Marie P. Chavez, Maridel P. Uygongco, Wilson P. Esperancilla, Geronimo S. Treñas; the photographer Joshua James P. Enriquez; writers/contributors; Project manager Leny T. Ledesma; marketing team Paolo S. Treñas and Myka B. Perlas, plus to the sponsors and everyone who were there to make this all come together.
The cook book will now bear the proud sticker with the official symbol of Finalist in the 41st National Book awards. What this shows is that together, we can achieve great heights if we work together!” – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas
